Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers, and it's for everyone. We go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. We make friends, have fun, play games, and work in teams.

Joining Scouts

We welcome applications for entry into our Scout sections, catering to young people of various ages. Whether your child is interested in Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts, we have a place for them to grow, learn, and have fun.

All applications for places should be made through our Online Scout Management (OSM) platform. Initially, your child will be added to our waiting list. We regularly review applications and will contact you when we can offer your child a place.

Waiting List Acceptance Criteria:

  1. The young person must be within 12 months of the minimum entry age requirement of the section.

  2. The young person is a resident of Twyford or Ruscombe.

  3. The young person is not a resident in Twyford or Ruscombe but is attending a Twyford school and lives in the surrounding area where no age-appropriate section exists at their local Scout Group.

Note: To be accepted, a young person must meet either criteria 1 and 2, or criteria 1 and 3.

Priority of admission to a section:
To ensure a fair and transparent process, we follow these priorities when offering places:

  • The young person is already in a different section in the 1st Twyford Scout Group (those moving up).

  • A young person with a parent who is a leader/volunteer.

  • A young person with siblings already in 1st Twyford Scout Group.

  • A young person living or going to school in the local area where no Scout Group (or relevant sections) exists.

  • Those already in Scouting in another group are assessed individually depending on circumstances and places allocated accordingly

1st Twyford Scout Group Code of Conduct

To ensure a positive and supportive environment for all our members, we have introduced a new Code of Conduct and anti-bullying policy. We kindly ask all new parents and guardians to read and understand this Code of Conduct before signing up, as it outlines our expectations and helps us create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
