Since 1910....

1st Twyford Scout Group has been, and remains, a warm and welcoming community Scout Group, serving Twyford and the surrounding area, where everyone is welcome, regardless of gender, race or background.

We have an amazing team of highly experienced and passionate volunteers, who work incredibly hard to provide a safe, fun and inspiring programme and environment for all.

We run 8 weekly meetings of Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at our HQ in Twyford, (welcoming our first Squirrels in Jan 2025), helping over 180 young people, develop skills for life.

In addition to our weekly meetings, our team of volunteers, organise and support numerous Scouting and community activities, events and camps across Berkshire and the UK. Everyone requires careful planning and organisation as well as the safe transportation of people, equipment and supplies.

What do Scouts do?

Scouting helps children and young adults reach their full potential, whilst allowing them space to explore their full self and the world around them.

Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or sail a boat and much more. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.

What do volunteers do?

This life changing adventure is only possible, thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a Charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.

Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
