MaA-2024 Archery Course
12/3/2023, 9:05:04 PM

Starting in January 2024, this course will cover the requirement to achieve the Master at Arms (MaA) badge, which will contain MUCH MORE than the "have-a-go" sessions on a typical Scout night:

  • Different styles of archery shooting

  • Shooting at different distances

  • Maintaining your cool under pressure

  • Using sights

  • Maintenance

  • Range set up and layouts

  • Accessible (Disability) shooting

  • Safety and Taking Charge

  • Joining a club and developing your technique

Those of you who show an exceptional level of skill or improvement throughout the course may also be able to achieve your Activity Plus Badge as well.

And finally, for any returning Scouts who have completed a previous MaA Archery course, there will be the opportunity for you to get your Instructors badge.

Brief Info about the Course

The cost is £45.00 for the MaA course, which works out at just over £1.00/hour, which we believe is a bargain!

You can watch a brief video of some of what happened last time here

There is no cost for the Instructors course.

There are TWO courses (1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday), with additional short evening sessions mostly for games on Fridays (for BOTH courses)

Dates and times have been emailed with a form link to sign up

Saturdays and Sundays (HQ and BCA) will be from 10am till 3pm with a short break for lunch.

Fridays (HQ Only) will be from 7:30pm until around 9:30pm

Refreshments will be provided during the course, but NOT Lunch / Dinners – Please bring a packed lunch / dinner or additional snacks if these are required.

Attendance Requirements & Assessment (MaA ONLY)

To achieve the MaA badge, you will need to ACTIVELY participate in the following:

  • Attend ALL FIVE sessions - Three indoors and 2 outdoors.

  • Attend AT LEAST ONE Evening session (More if you wish)

  • Pass your assessment!

You will need to be available for the assessment which will take place on the weekend of 13-14 April and will be a practical test of what you will learn during the course, as well as a scored shoot as part of the Archery GB Progress Award scheme and some other things as well - More on that during the course.

Attendance Requirements & Assessment (Instructors ONLY)

Basically, you will be helping to run the course!

As the Archery permit holders do less, you will be doing more, until assessment day when (hopefully) I’m just sat on a chair drinking tea, and you have everything in hand 😊.

Afterwards

For ALL who pass, you will ALL be given the opportunity to join us and represent our Troop at the National Scout Archery Competition (cost not included) held at Phasels Wood Campsite (More information given during the course).

Finally, you will also be eligible to join our (soon to be Archery GB registered) Twyford Scout Archery Club!
