YIS Super

Droof update - Sunday's weather - it rained from 05.00 until 15.00, including some hefty showers! I was wet to the bone; all campers in good spirits though and all activities went as planned, apart from archery. It dried out well enough for cooking the evening meal.
Super : Was Chewie at the same camp as you or did he have rose-coloured glasses on!
Droof - perhaps he was in the marquee all day... The Scouts were brilliant!

Saturday 4th August
At Alton Towers today - saw one photo of leaders on a ride and not sure whether they were enjoying it or being tortured!!!

Friday 3rd August
Raft-building and archery was the name of the game today with the hikers completing the overnighter. Everyone now psyching themselves up for the big rides (and queues!) at Alton Towers tomorrow.

Thursday 2nd August
Other half of the group started the overnight expedition today whilst climbing was the activity for the rest - all going to plan then!

Wednesday 1st August
Spent the day at the water park - good fun but apparently rather busy!

Tuesday 31st July
Today saw them having great fun raft-building - the younger ones must have been paying more attention to the pioneering on Sunday as theirs was the raft that lasted longest whilst the Explorers raft fell apart first! This was followed by a visit to Stocksbridge, no doubt to spend their pocket money in the nearest sweetshop! The other half completed the return journey of the expedition with no-one having to be rescued, so well done to all!

Monday 30th July
Another reasonable day weather-wise - some rain but also lots of sunshine. Half the group went climbing whilst the others started the overnight expedition, hiking to their other campsite - all reached there safely.

Sunday 29th July
A busy first day spent doing Scouty things - knife and axe safety and some pioneering for all. Other activities included orienteering and traverse wall. All of these done with just the odd spot of rain - not like us left behind in Twyford then!

Saturday 28th July
All arrived safely having thankfully had an uneventful journey. Camp is set up and all are fed and watered, though at the time I spoke with Chewie none of them were showing signs of calming down ready for bed having been cooped up in vehicles all day - and that includes the leaders!

Summer campers - parents/scout pre-camp briefing and Q&A session Friday 20th July at Scout HQ from 19:30 onwards
