Archery Course-2018

Archery Course 2018

Continuing on from our successes last year, I'm pleased to announce our Second Archery Course!

This will be run on the dates opposite, from the middle of February to the end of April 2018.

New for this year is the introduction of Friday sessions, which are to allow you even more time on the range shooting (With a few competitions thrown in as well)
These are optional (but recommended) - The aim is to start at 7pm, and finish when we're all tired!

The course will cover much more than a normal "have-a-go" sessions we have run in the past and will include:
  • Different styles of archery shooting
  • Shooting at further distances
  • Using sights
  • Maintenance
  • Range set up and layouts
  • Accessible (Disability) shooting
  • Safety and Taking Charge
  • Gain your Master at Arms Badge
This will be your opportunity to improve your technique, as well as become more involved in the running of archery.

You will also be shooting as part of the Archery GB Progress Award scheme, which will be based on your final assessment shoot of 36 arrows during Assessment Day (Session 10).

Finally, you will ALL be given the opportunity to represent our Troop at the National Scout Archery Competition held at Phasels Wood on 11th to 13th May (Camping)

Places on the Course will be limited to 12, and the cost will be £15 to cover the badge costs, and some of the training aids
Snacks and drinks will be available, but NOT Lunch / Dinners

Course places will be offered on a first come basis - BUT with priority to Scouts who did NOT attend last years Archery Course.
Please still contact me if you are interested, as there might be places available- especially if you want to work for your Instructor Badge - Details here (opens in new window)

Previous participants who do not make it onto the course will still be able to attend the National Scout Archery Competition and also Session 2 at Winter Camp

Please note that the cost of the National Scout Archery Competition is NOT included in the cost of the course, and expected to be about £40 depending on numbers.

Also hoping to replace one of the later coaching sessions with a trip to the BCA to try some clout - Watch this space

Minimum attendance required:

Obviously it would be great if you came to ALL sessions, but I appreciate that life isn't like that!

As a minimum, you need to make EITHER of the Introductory Days AND 3 out of the 4 Coaching Days

(Obviously if you all turn up to Introductory Day 1, then the other one can be changed to something more challenging)

It would be EXTREMELY useful to attend an Introductory Day (1 or 2) BEFORE attending a Friday Practice Session!

If any of the above causes ANY problems, please let me know, as I will TRY to accommodate all REASONABLE requests
