Raft Race 2010

Sunday 4th July at Black Swan Lake
Once again the District Raft Race was held on the sailing lake and once again Twyford were there to compete for the trophy and Murray Plate points. 4 Scouts put their ideas and skills to the test to build a raft from traditional Scout materials and then race it to the bouy and back against other troops from Loddon District. The pictures show the raft on and off the water - it won the certificates for best build and 'rocket-scientist' - note the strategically placed rudders! The judging was done by Explorer leaders from Wokingham. Unfortunately, the melée at the start of the race meant that our team were stuck between two others in the strong wind (it always seems to blow a gale on the first Sunday of July!). Once free they recovered with strong paddling to gain 3rd place in the race and 2nd overall.
