Scouts - District Raft Race

posted 7 Jul 2013, 14:13 by Phil Hayes
Sunday July 7th was the hottest day of the year so far, 5 intrepid scouts managed to keep their cool and had a fab time both on and in the water at Dinton Pastures taking part in the Loddon District Raft Race (part of the Murray Plate competition). The team arrived at 1pm to find a pile of poles, barrels and bags of rope waiting for them, they quickly set to work building a raft using skills learned through our pioneering activities and by 3pm were ready to test their craft. Once build all rafts are tested for sea-worthiness, before taking part in a race on the main lake, despite some early problems getting onto the raft, they put up a sterling performance, passing a few wrecks on the way. With a quicker start they would have been amongst the front runners as the craft handled well in a straight line and the team worked well together producing a good turn of speed. Well done on taking the Rocket Scientists Award for innovative design and clever ideas - a well constructed craft. The overall winners this year were Hurst who performed well throughout the day - congratulations to them.
