The Three Towers 2013

The Three Towers is a series of hikes organised by a dedicated team from the local scout districts. The hike is for teams of 3 or 4 with a variety of categories:

Scout, ages 10-14, covering 27km / 17 miles;
Scout Plus, ages 12½ - 14½, covering 36km / 24 miles;
Explorer, ages 13½- 18 (over 18s may enter but are not eligible to win any trophies), covering 42km / 28 miles;
Jubilee Plus, ages 10+, covering 20km / 12 miles;
Classic, ages 16+, covering 66km / 42 miles.

This year we entered two Scout teams, two Jubilee Plus teams and one Classic team. In perfect weather all teams completed their routes with our Jubilee team "Tottering Totties Plus One" the first of teams to cross their finish line in a time on 4 hours 47 minutes. Next to cross their finish line was our other Jubilee team, "Blister Sisters" in a time of 5 hours 46 minutes.

Our two Scout teams, who arrived at the final checkpoint together, along with a four legged friend they found along the way, just before 17:00 posted official times of 7 hours 41 minutes (Polehampton Hares, Team 121) and 7 hours, 17 minutes (Polehampton Wildebeest, Team 141). Both of these teams received Silver Awards (not to be confused with the Chief Scout's Silver Award) for finishing in the fastest 66% of Scout teams.

The Classic team finished their gruelling 42 mile route before midnight, an achievement narrowly missed last year, posting a time of 15 hours and 48 minutes.

Full results can be found on the Three Towers website.

Congratulations to all of our teams for completing your routes and finally thank you to the Twyford leaders who organised the teams as well as the countless people who help to organise and run the event.
