Over the weekend of May 6th-8th Purp and Zed took a squad of six scouts and one explorer to this year's National Archery Competition - our first ever foray in this event. Our primary aim was to meet up with scouts from around the country at Phasels Wood campsite, near Hemel Hempstead and to give our scouts the chance to shoot under competition conditions. The competition included a number of shooting disciplines for both U14, over 14 and over 18 categories - events included 20yd/40yd target, field target and clout (shooting at a flag way off in a field) all of which involved well over 400 competitors. Our hosts for the event were Hampshire Scout Archery Club, who put on a fantastic and well organised event, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.Whilst not expecting to win any prizes, we did hope to perform reasonably well - our expectations were well and truly shattered when the results came out on the Sunday afternoon - between us we picked up 6 medals and 2 trophies, among them we now have a new Under 14 National Champion in the group, with Joe picking up a silver medal (field target), gold medal and trophy (20yd target) and icing on the cake being the overall under 14 champion over the 3 disciplines (20yd, field and clout). Additional medals were awarded to Luke (bronze in 20yd target and overall U14 bronze) and Zed (bronze medal for over 18 field target), which made us all very proud and we are already looking forward to next year's event.
