SizesThere are three sizes available, which are 20’ x 20’, 30' x 20' and 40' x 20'. All need a few extra feet around the perimeter for guy ropes and around 15ft height clearance in the centre. The marquees have to be pitched on grass and it is therefore not viable to erect one on a patio.
CostsThe approximate costings for local hires are respectively £100, £160 and £210 which includes a weekend hire (as opposed to a day) and erection by ourselves. It may be possible to arrange a discount if you are able to provide some ‘labour’ and it is also possibly to hire a 20’ x 20’ marquee, together with instructions, on a DIY basis!
BookingThe first step is to contact Tom to see if your required date is free. You can either call him (0118 9403117) or e-mail marquee@twyfordscouts.org.uk. Note that June and July are the busiest months with marquees booked well in advance. Tom can advise you on suitability for numbers of guests and can undertake a site visit for what might be a ‘tight fit’.
Flooring, Lighting, Heating, Tables & Chairs
We don’t provide flooring. It can be hired commercially but some hirers make up a dance floor simply by purchasing some 8’ x 4’ sheets of hardboard and screwing them together. We have gas lighting available but the simple option is to run an electricity cable into the marquee. We have a modest calor gas space heater available for heating but it is noisy.
We can hire tables and chairs – 6' x 2' trestle tables plus stacking chairs with tubular metal legs and plastic seats. And we may be able to loan big, solid fuel barbeques. Administration and Payment
There are no forms to fill in. We shall keep our part of any agreement and we trust you to do the same, but if a last minute cancellation should be necessary (such occasions are rare) then we may seek some recompense for loss of income. Payment with cheque (made out to ‘Twyford Scouts) or cash is not normally required until after the event. Our marquees are fully insured but it is, of course, the hirers’ responsibility if underground pipes or cables are damaged unless the exact locations have been pointed out. |
